“동질이형” 작업은 두 개 이상의 서로 다른 외형을 가진 물질들이 동일한 성분을 공유하고 직사각형의 캔버스와 단색으로 칠해진 화면, 그리고 작가가 추구하는 캔버스 표면과 다르다고 보는 화면의 평면성이다. 작가의 작업방식은 한 가지 문제를 설정하고 기본적인 틀(색채, 형태, 구성) 안에서 모든 가능한 방법으로 시험해보는 작업이다. 또한 그의 작품에서 보여지는 표면의 가상성은 관람자들로 하여금 보는 것에서 표면의 실체를 알게 되는 것으로 관심을 전환시킴으로써 새로운 조형형식을 창출해낸다.
The “Dongjirilhyung” series explores the coexistence of different external forms that nevertheless share the same substance, within the rectangular canvas, the monochrome surface, and the artist’s perception of pictorial flatness as distinct from the actual surface of the canvas. The artist’s working method involves posing a single problem and then testing every possible solution within a basic framework of color, form, and composition. Furthermore, the virtuality of the surface in his works shifts the viewer’s attention from what is seen to the reality of the surface itself, thereby generating a new formative language.
