작가는 덕화(덕후의 그림, nerd painting) 라는 장르의 그림을 그리며 캔버스 안에서 그가 좋아하는 캐릭터들을 만나 볼 수 있는 매력과 재미를 보는 이들에게 선사한다. 어디선가 본 듯한 익숙한 캐릭터들이 함께 모여 캠핑하고 라면을 먹는 모습에서 오묘함과 편안함이 공존한다. 캐릭터들은 각자 다른 능력, 역할, 그리고 성격을 가졌지만, 그들은 작가가 창조해 낸 멀티버스 공간에 모여 휴식을 취하는 모습이 쓸쓸해 보이기도 하며 따듯한 위안이 느껴지기도 한다. 이들은 라면과 맥주를 마시며 어떠한 이야기를 나눌지, 또 함께 여행하며 어떻게 상호작용을 할지 보는 이들에게 상상력과 궁금증을 불어넣는다. 영화 속 캐릭터처럼 우리도 각자 인생의 주인공이기에, 전시를 보는 동안 우리도 한 명의 캐릭터로서 작가의 멀티버스에 들어가 보는 경험이 되기를 바란다.
The artist paints in a genre he calls Deokhwa (short for “deokhu painting,” or “nerd painting”), offering viewers the charm and delight of encountering his favorite characters within the canvas. Familiar figures—characters we feel we have seen somewhere before—gather together to camp and eat ramen, creating a scene where strangeness and comfort coexist. Though each character has its own abilities, roles, and personalities, their gathering in the multiverse space imagined by the artist conveys both a sense of solitude and a warm sense of solace. As they share ramen and beer, viewers are invited to imagine what conversations they might have, how they might interact while traveling together, and what stories might unfold. Just like the characters in a film, we too are protagonists of our own lives; thus, the exhibition invites us to step into the artist’s multiverse as characters ourselves, if only for a moment.
