소품들이 배치된 깊이 있는 공간과 현대인의 다양한 욕구를 반영한 3차원적으로 연출된 공간을 구현하는 작업을 통해서 박현곤 작가는 현대인의 내면에 자리잡고 있는 외로움과 소외, 쓸쓸함, 그리고 공간에 대한 호기심적인 욕구를 보여준다. 인위적인 3차원적 공간을 들여다보면 식탁 위에 차려진 각종 식기들, 흐트러진 책들, 홀로 켜진 조명은 이 시대에 넘쳐나는 물질문명과 자본주의적 소비욕구, 풍족함 속에서 겪는 상대적 결핍, 소외, 그리고 상실감을 상징적으로 나타낸 장치들이다. 작가의 의도가 담긴 허구의 공간을 창문을 통해 관람자들이 들여다보면 그들이 맞닥뜨리는 것은 자신의 내면이 되고 감상자들의 들여다보는 행위도 작품의 일부로 승화된다.
Through the creation of spaces arranged with small objects and staged in a three-dimensional manner that reflects the diverse desires of contemporary individuals, artist Park Hyun Gon reveals the loneliness, isolation, solitude, and curiosity about space that reside within the modern psyche. Within these artificial three-dimensional spaces, the table set with various dishes, the scattered books, and the solitary light left on become symbolic devices—representing the material civilization and capitalist desire for consumption that overflow in our time, as well as the relative sense of lack, alienation, and loss experienced amidst abundance. When viewers peer into these fictional spaces imbued with the artist’s intent, what they ultimately confront is their own inner self, and their very act of looking becomes an integral part of the work itself.
