2015년부터 3년간 인천국제공항에 김환기 화가와 함께 한국을 알리는 작가로 선정된 박상훈은 1982년, 86년과 94년 <우리나라 새벽여행>展 등으로 한국풍경사진의 새로운 지평을 연 작가로도 잘 알려졌다. 풍경 누드 인물 등 신작을 발표할 때 마다 새로운 화두를 던지며 화제가 되었던 그는 이번 <화양연화>전에서도 볼 수 있을 것이다. 지극히 평범한 꽃을 통해 인간의 존재와 시간성을 사유하며, 꽃과 이슬이라는 상투적인 조합을 독창적인 방식으로 구현함으로서 결정적인 “화룡점정”을 찍었다. 특히 “도산공원, 봉은사 등을 산책하며 만날 수 있는 꽃들의 피고 지는 모습과 더불어 살아가는 곤충들에서 생명의 경이로움은 우리의 삶과 다를 바 없다”고 작가는 말하고 있다. 심화된 디지털의 세계를 적극 수용하여 새로운 형식을 제시하는 작품들에서 자신의 허물을 벗는 고통을 기꺼이 감내하는 치열한 작가정신을 엿 볼 수 있다. 가장 화려했던 시절에 국한하지 않고 “지금 보고 듣고 느끼는 순간순간이 화양연화다”.라는 작가의 메세지가 어떻게 작품에 투영되는지 볼 수 있는 흥미로운 전시가 될 것이다.
Artist Park Sang-hoon, who was selected alongside painter Kim Whanki as a representative artist promoting Korea at Incheon International Airport from 2015 to 2018, is also well known for opening a new horizon in Korean landscape photography through exhibitions such as A Journey Through Korea at Dawn (1982, 1986, and 1994). Each time he has presented new works—ranging from landscapes and nudes to portraits—Park has consistently sparked conversation by introducing fresh themes. This continues in his latest exhibition, In the Mood for Love (花樣年華). Through the depiction of ordinary flowers, Park contemplates human existence and the passage of time. By reinterpreting the conventional pairing of flowers and dew in a uniquely creative way, he achieves a decisive artistic flourish—a true finishing touch. The artist notes, “The blooming and withering flowers, and the insects living among them in places like Dosan Park and Bongeunsa Temple, reveal the wonder of life, which is no different from our own.” Embracing the deepened possibilities of the digital era, Park presents works that propose new forms while revealing a fierce artistic spirit—one that willingly endures the pain of transformation and renewal. His message, “Every moment we see, hear, and feel now is In the Mood for Love,” transcends nostalgia for life’s most radiant times, offering an exhibition that insightfully reflects how this philosophy manifests in his art.
