작가 한민우는 담백한 형태의 도자들을 제작하면서 전통과 현대를 잇는 미학적 균형을 보여주고 있다. 작가는 조선 왕실 사옹원 분원 관요의 6대 후손으로서, 270년 가까이 이어져 온 가업을 이어가고 있다. 작품은 개인의 정체성을 넘어 선조들의 유산이기도 하며, ‘유산의 계승’ 또는 ‘지속성의 미학’이라는 개념과 맥락을 같이 한다. 이번 전시에서는 ‘낯선 것, 익숙한 것, 백자’를 주제로 한 작품들을 선보인다. 백자는 겉보기엔 평범해 보이나, 그 안에는 오랜 시간과 공간의 흐름, 그리고 문화적 기억이 내포되어 있다. 작가는 자신이 만든 백자를 통해 작업 세계를 탐구하며, 일상적 대상이 어떻게 깊은 의미를 품게 되는지를 보여준다. 단순한 ‘재현’이 아닌, ‘존재하는 것의 의미와 방식’을 탐구하는 방식이다.
Artist Han Minwoo creates ceramics of understated form, demonstrating an aesthetic balance that bridges tradition and modernity. As a sixth-generation descendant of the Bunwon Royal Kiln under the Joseon Dynasty’s Saongwon (Office of Royal Supply), he continues a family legacy that spans nearly 270 years. His works embody not only his personal identity but also the heritage of his ancestors, aligning with the concepts of “the inheritance of legacy” and the “aesthetics of continuity.” In this exhibition, Han presents works under the theme “The Unfamiliar, the Familiar, and White Porcelain.” White porcelain may appear ordinary at first glance, yet within it lies the flow of time and space and the layers of cultural memory. Through his white porcelain works, the artist explores his creative world, revealing how everyday objects can hold profound meaning. His approach goes beyond mere “representation,” delving instead into the meaning and mode of existence itself.
