World of Min Kyungsuk's Art

Artist Min Kyungsuk gets materials or motifs from what she has always seen, what she feels familiar with through experiences, or from trivial feelings in daily life. In particular, these objects, which are everyday materials such as fruits, flowers, dolls, and toys, in a transparent plastic packaging bag, are re-examined about the identity and relationship theory of photographs and paintings. On the surface, photographs are expressed close to paintings and paintings are expressed close to photographs. And through this, it is to express the artist's own story or the thoughts contained in it. From that, we can read the artist's identity, and our hearts move when we gain sympathy from it.
She enjoys 'drawing' itself through a method of precise description like a photograph, and is working to confirm his identity through 'how to draw'. What matters to him is 'what to draw' rather than 'how to draw'. Therefore, while taking the method of realistic representation, he captures a scene in which the form filtered through a material called transparent vinyl is visually transformed. Close-up of objects wrapped in transparent plastic bags are preserved in the screen so that easily used and discarded beings can escape the familiar meaning and re-exist at a point that transcends time and space. It shows the reproduction of an upgraded object that embraces invisible reality, image, and essence beyond the imitation of shape, hoping that familiar and ordinary things can be recognized again as something different in the picture.

민경숙 작가는 자신이 늘 보아 왔거나, 체험을 통해 친근하게 느끼는 것 혹은 일상의 사소한 느낌에서 소재나 모티프를 얻는다. 특히 일상적인 소재인 과일, 꽃, 인형, 장난감 등이 투명한 비닐 포장 주머니 속에 들어있는 이러한 오브제들을 사진과 회화의 정체성과 관계론에 대해 재조명하는 것으로 전시 작품들은 표면상 사진은 회화에 가깝게, 회화는 사진에 가깝게 표현되어지고 있다. 그리고 이를 통해 작가 자신의 이야기나 그 속에 담긴 생각을 표현하는 것이다. 그것으로부터 우리는, 작가의 정체성을 읽을 수 있으며, 거기에서 공감을 얻을 때 마음이 움직이게 된다.

그는 사진처럼 정밀한 묘사의 방법을 통해 ‘그리는 것’ 그 자체를 즐기며, ‘그리는 법’ 을 통해 자신의 정체성을 확인하는 작업을 하고 있는 것이다. 그에게 있어서 중요한 것은 '어떻게 그리느냐' 보다는 '무엇을 그리는가' 이다. 따라서 그는 사실적인 재현의 방식을 택하면서도 투명 비닐이라는 소재를 통해 여과된 형태가 시각적으로 변형된 장면을 담아낸다. 투명 비닐주머니로 포장된 오브제들을 클로즈업하여 화면 안에 보존함으로써 쉽게 쓰이고 버려지는 존재들이 익숙한 의미를 벗고 시간과 공간을 초월한 지점에서 다시 존재하도록 한다. 익숙하고 평범한 것들이 그림 안에서 다른 무언가로 다시 인식 될 수 있기를 바라며, 형상의 모방을 넘어 눈에 보이지 않는 실제와 이미지 그리고 본질까지 수용하는 격상된 오브제의 재현을 보여주고 있다.
